CMR Fuel Cells signs joint development agreement with Asian ODM

CMR Fuel Cells plc, has announced that it has signed an exclusive Joint Development Agreement (‘JDA’) with a leading Asian Original Design Manufacturer (‘ODM’). The two companies will collaborate in the design and development of a stand-alone hybrid power system using both a battery and 25W Direct Methanol Fuel Cell (‘DMFC’) charger intended for consumer use.

The DMFC System being developed by CMR is designed to function with a battery being developed by its ODM partner and is anticipated to provide over eight hours of grid-independent power for a notebook computer from a single fuel cartridge; removing any reliance on mains electricity during its operational period.

Under the terms of the agreement, CMR will receive a purchase order for a number of prototype units to be supplied in 2009 as well as a letter of intent to CMR in respect of an initial purchase order of over 10,000 DMFC System units. The letter of intent is contingent upon the DMFC System conforming to the agreed technical specifications and successful acceptance by the ODM’s own customer.
