DES installs and commissions hydrogen vehicle fuelling system in NYC

Distributed Energy Systems (DES) has announced that it has successfully installed and commissioned its first hydrogen vehicle fuelling system in the New York City (NYC) metropolitan area.

The system is located in the City of White Plains, which is around 25 miles north of Manhattan in Westchester County, and has been installed as part of a drive by the city to demonstrate the viability of hydrogen infrastructure for fuel cell vehicles.

DES' FuelGen hydrogen fuelling system has been developed in conjunction with Air Products and Shell Hydrogen, and utilises proton exchange membrane electrolysis technology to convert electrical energy and water into hydrogen fuel.

Robert Friedland, Distributed Energy Systems' senior vice president of hydrogen generation, believes the installation will provide an excellent opportunity for his company to highlight the technology's capabilities.

"Working with organisations such as Shell Hydrogen and Air Products to showcase our hydrogen fuelling technology is the right kind of collaboration," he commented.

"The station clearly shows the commercial capabilities of our technology and the viability of it becoming a successful response to the growing demand for hydrogen fuelling infrastructure across many different types of hydrogen fuelling markets."
