Rolls Royce Fuel Cell acquires SOFCo-EFS
Confirming the acquisition, Rolls Royce said that taking on SOFCo-EFS's research and development capabilities underscored the company's commitment to developing solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) systems for stationary power applications.
SOFCo's research team has experience developing SOFC materials and stacks as well as the related fuel processing technologies.
"We are aggressively growing our global fuel cell capability, and the acquisition of the SOFCo assets aligns with our strategy," said Rolls Royce Fuel Cell Systems US president Mark Fleiner.
"From the beginning, our strategy has been to engage the best skills and technology around the world to create the first cost-competitive, highly-efficient fuel cell systems. This acquisition is a critical step on our journey."
Rolls Royce stated that its business goal was to introduce a competitive fuel cell-based product by the end of the current decade.
