Air Products hydrogen refuelling technology installed at BP station in Detroit

Hydrogen fuelling technology designed by Air Products has been installed at British Petroleum's (BP) new hydrogen refuelling station at the NextEnergyCenter in Detroit.

The integrated vehicle fuelling system, which provides storage and dispensing of hydrogen for fuel cell-powered cars, was installed at the centre as part of the US Department of Energy's (DoE) five-year fuel cell vehicle and infrastructure validation programme.

According to the company, the system has the advantage of incorporating on-site hydrogen generation, allowing for a distributed network of refuelling stations.

Commenting on the collaboration with BP, commercial development manager at Air Products Don Eichelberger said: "We have had a relationship of working together on other hydrogen fuelling stations and are pleased to assist them with this project and their work with DOE and the infrastructure validation programme."

Air Products' relationship with BP dates back to 2004, when it supplied the hydrogen refuelling technology for the first hydrogen fuel station in Singapore.

The NextEnergyCenter is a collaborative project involving BP, DaimlerChrysler and NextEnergy, supported by the DoE.
