Organisation Description

Hoku Scientific was founded in 2000 to develop new and proprietary fuel cell technologies. Located in Honolulu, Hawaii, the organisation is working on research in a variety of areas, including fuel cell components and systems. The primary focus is a new membrane and MEA technology for use in Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cells called the Hoku Membrane. The Hoku Membrane and MEA offers the potential for substantially better performance than today's technologies, while reducing product costs significantly. The company is also working on an alternate membrane design for use in direct methanol fuel cells.
In July 2003, the organisation announced the start of a partnership with SANYO to develop MEAs for PEM fuel cells.
