The UK's Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) is a government-sponsored organisation looking at how to reduce the levels of carbon dioxide emitted from cars and other road vehicles. Although there are many ways to approach this, from changing the mode of transport used to improving driving skills and reducing traffic congestion, the LowCVP focuses mainly on high technology: low weight components for vehicles, improved fuels and better engine design.
It held its annual conference at the UK's Motor Heritage Museum at Gaydon in Warwickshire, timed to fit in with the launch there of the Green By Design sub-exhibition and of a new UK environmental labelling scheme for cars. Taken together, these three events showed how advanced the UK is in its policy and government thinking on transportation but also how far there is to go in the journey towards sustainability.
